I agree. The mall needs an owner with a vision. US Bank has no plans for the mall other than make some money off a potential buyer. They won’t be dumping money into it anytime soon, nor will they be recruiting new tenants for the anchors. I’m glad that the hotel plan appears to have fallen through because that leaves space for redevelopment. I wish that a high end theater would come, but with Marquee remodeling and stepping up in quality, I doubt one would come. Park Place moving over is unlikely. I still believe that subdividing one of those anchor spaces would be best. I was at Grand Central mall in Parkersburg a couple weeks ago and noticed that they are replacing their former Sears (I think) with 4 medium sized stores.

As for the Civic Center, it needs a marquee event to happen annually. Something that is unique to the region, and will draw people regionally.

I've thought the same thing about the Civic Center, and hosting the high school basketball championships isn't enough.

I think this also goes back to previous discussions regarding Charleston developing and growing Mountain Stage to something resembling Austin City Limits. Could the city, area, and arena handle a two-day music festival?

Has the Civic Center ever hosted a UFC PPV or a top-level boxing match?

Hasn’t hosted one to my knowledge. I like the idea of a music festival and Mountain Stage needs to become a focal point for the city’s CVB. A Mountain music Mecca is what Charleston needs to become. I’d like to see them outgrow the Culture Center.
