Thanks for your replies! Everything you've told me has been helpful! Just wanted to add that as a kid, I lived many places due to my dad being unable to stay put! So I've gotten used to a lot of places. West Coast, East Coast, Mid West, I've done it all. I've found that I do like smaller cities, unlike where I'm at. I like the cozy feel of smaller places. However, I will go to a big city if it is friendly enough. Basically, I'm just wanting to go where I can at least find some like minded people to hang out with. I would think there are some grad students in Charleston since a major graduate college is there... am I right??

You continue to be very vague. Could you define "like minded" for me? Do you mean conservative, christian conservative, liberal, southern democrat (conservative democrat), what? I'm assuming when you say "like minded" that you mean very liberal. If that is the case then I would not suggest southern West Virginia at all. I would suggest a larger city an area with a very large university. You need to realize that West Virginia is very religious and most religious people are against things like abortion, stem cell research, drinking alcohol (though you will certainly find plenty of people on college campuses that will enjoy this), etc. Southern WV is full of southern baptists.

If you're really liberal, I'd suggest staying out of the bible belt although there are certainly some cities known to be liberal in it but I wouldn't count any in WV to be so. Maybe if you went to WVU in Morgantown or if you went to the eastern panhandle of the state near Washington DC (but there's only smaller colleges over there).

Oh no, I don't mean anything about people's religious or politicial affiliation. That's not a criteria I use to select people to spend my time with. I have a few very good friends in WV and I couldn't tell you what their political affiliation is. I know they go to church, as do I, but I don't know what their denominations are. I mean people who are my age, in a similar situation (grad students or young people out there working hard). That's all! :-)
