Possibly being transferred to NC. Can basically live anywhere somewhat close to a major airport.
So confused about Charlotte. We like the area around Lake Norman. Davidson seems very nice and on paper so does Cornelius. My sister-in-law is in Concord and thinks it's great. Most info seems to point to South Charlotte.
We have 2 kids- 5th and 7th grade schools are VERY important. Are price range is 400-425.

Best schools in Meck county are in South Charlotte. Many people like Union County and Fort Mill, SC. for schools as well. I have done some research on middle schools - It seems that JM Robinson is one of the best in the county. Also Community House and South Charlotte Middle. Carmel and AG are good also. All feed into good high schools. I am most impressed by JM Robinson though - they have great test scores and have won 4 state science Olympiad contests in a row - plus winning Battle of the Books contest - first in county to win top state prize. Much of the area is affluent so the student body is of high quality.
For what you have noted is important to you, I would consider South Charlotte, Union County and Fort Mill, SC. You will have many options in your price range.
I have a 15 year old, a 13 year old and a 9 year old. We live in Western Union County (Marvin area) and love it here.
Living north of Charlotte would likely mean a longer commute to the airport, especially during rush hour.
Union County to the airport would be quite the commute unless you live right off of 485---and then depending on when you have to be at the airport, it could be a difficult drive. Often times, in Charlotte, the hardest part is getting to the highway. But the concept of traffic is all relative to what you are used to.
I would recommend the Fort Mill and the town of Lake Wylie SC. Good schools, easy airport commute, low taxes in unincorporated areas. In your price range there is a lot to choose from in very nice communities.
Davidson. Davidson's middle school is awesome. The population, and thus any sampling you get on Charlotte, from City Forum is very skewed. New people want info and new people for some reason flock to S Charlotte.

One more time. Davidson.
Good Luck.
