Saw today that there's going to be a meeting in Ballantyne (and other areas) by the CHA about affordable housing. I suspect this is a precursor to another affordable housing onslaught across Charlotte. Given the last two defeats by CHA it is very clear that they are now on a PR campaign to get projects rolling before their stream of money (stimulus funding) dries up. Details here: The Ballantyne, NC Scoop

I am going to try and be optomisitic here and am hoping that both the CHA and CMHP are learning that, in order to further their own cause, they need to start truly working with the communities of Charlotte from Day 1 -as opposed to developing plans behind everyone else's back and then just trying to steamroll through neighborhoods as they have been in the past year.

I am going to try to be at that meeting, just so I can prepare myself for the next set of affordable housing proposals.

Hope the HOAs are planning on sending folks too.

You may want to ask them why they aren't considering their own neighborhoods as candidates as well.

With so many properties on the market . . . I would like to know how the city even justifies building more properties, period.

I'm ignorant of how to find this info, Ani. Any pointers? Judging from the "lol", I'm guessing that there are no low-income units near the good Mayor's residence? That's what I suspected, but I wanted to check it out for certain.

No, I have not checked it out myself - just giggling that nothing is private anymore . . . the records usually have a photo of the residence, as well!

Go here:

Real Estate Lookup

after you pull up the property, look up at the nav bar above the listing - there are typically photos.

Yep, 10th St. in Uptown. District 1. Certainly not the lowest # of units in the city, but only about half of the # of units that District 3, where they wanted to get the waiver for the CMHP Westinghouse Apartments.

I don't see him pleading to the Councilmen from Districts 4, 5 and 7 (the lowest # of units) to "think of the 3000 homeless children" and support low-income housing in THEIR neighborhoods....
