My spouse was pulling weeds in our 2 year old sodded fescue lawn today. She's been pulling weeds for years and this was the first time she had found the weed I'm going to describe: it was growing like a vine. The best way to describe it is that it looks like Rosemary. I actually smelled it as I thought she'd picked some of our Rosemary from the herb garden. She indicated there is alot of it creeping through the lawn. What was strange is I had to run to Lowe's and while I was there another customer had a piece of the weed in his hand and was trying to get someone at Lowe's to identify it also, to no avail. He indicated it was starting to take over his fescue lawn. I've searched Google and could no locate a picture. Again, the best way to describe the look is very similar to Rosemary - short bristles. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Red face Centipede grass?

Sounds like centipede grass, which is almost impossible to eradicate. Instead of fighting it, you can just tolerate a fescue/centipede blend.

That's what my lawn is. The fescue looks great most of the year, and in the hot summer months, the centipede keeps things green. Fescue struggles in the climate here and takes a lot of (precious) water to keep green.

more than likely you have "common bermuda grass" invading your lawn.
google it...

you have to attack it when it's going dormant in the fall and again in the spring.
go to john deere landscapes and buy some Acclaim herbicide

It sounds like Bermuda to me too. You can buy Bermuda killer that won't hurt your fescue lawn. Look for it with the other lawn chemicals in Lowes or Home Depot. We had a big patch of Bermuda, so we just killed the whole area and resodded with fescue. Now we just pull any stray Bermuda blades we find popping up. I can't stand Bermuda grass!

Was it dog fennel? Kinda looks like Rosemary, but really is more fern-like in appearance. It's not a vine though.

If it is Bermuda grass...good luck. It is a battle I fight every single year. Right now I think it is winning.
