I am FINALLY getting around to getting my 8mm video transferred to a DVD format that I can then use on my mac to edit and make movies.

I have some very special stuff on there - my wedding 12 years ago, kids at all ages, vacations, etc.

Has anyone had good or bad results doing this at Wolf Camera in Ballantyne? Do you have any other suggestions as to who might do this?

Wolf quoted me $30 for every 2 hours of DVD they produce which is very reasonable versus the other local shops I called:

Studio South and Advanced Video and Digital Services

Before I launch into this I thought I would do my first post on here and see what you guys can tell me! Help!

Not used them but it really does depend on the method off transfer as to how good.

A lot of places do a straight transfer, which is not the highest quality for around the price you said.

Higher quality transfer usually runs around 50 for the two hour tape.

Ask them what their transfer process is?

What method of transfer do I need? I did not realize there was more than one.

So there is straight transfer which runs the price I was quoted and ___________ transfer which is $50 per tape?

A straight transfer can be pretty much done on just about any pc/mac.

The higher quality transfers, is where the will take a little time color correct add chapters etc. this would be done by transferring to a pc/mac and rendering the product insuring correct frame per second output.

Wow, I had no idea this stuff was still around. My parents had a Super 8 camera in the late 60s and 70s. Last time I saw that film was in the 80s when they took their box of film spools
to have it transferred to VCR tape.

I used Wolf to transfer my 21 year old wedding VHS video. The color was a little faded (not surprising) but it looked and sounded great. We haven't had a VCR in years so it was really fun to watch.

Well,

I ended up dropping them off at Studio South today and it will be 2-3 weeks before I get them back. Got my fingers crossed. Ended up that they were less expensive and did them right there in their shop. I appreciate all of the information. One person even reminded me not to have them shipped off somewhere because what if they get lost?

I will report back with the end result once I get it done to complete the thread.

Thanks all!
