My family moved to the Nashville area last summer from Pennsylvania. I have 5 children ages 11 to 22 who are of East Indian decent. We have enjoyed the area here however there is a very good chance we will have to relocate again this coming summer because of my husband's job. The two areas we are considering are Charlotte or Savannah. 3 of our children are out of high school so job market is important. We have 2 still in school (one in special ed) so education is also a concern. We are a fairly conservative Catholic family. Also as our children are Indian we would like to move to a resonably culturally diverse area. We would look in suburbs for a house with 4 or more bedrooms. Does anyone have any input as to which areas would suit our family best??? It would be great to have a "heads up" on things before we get to close to chosing an area. Thanks in advance for your input!!!

Charlotte has a lot of Eastern Indians living here. It is more urban and modern than Savannah. Charlotte is a big city and Savannah is still (for the most part) a charmiing old southern city.

Both cities are wonderful. You can't go wrong with either choice!

Charlotte is larger and more fast paced. Savannah is smaller but very charming & historic and near the beach.

I lived in Savannah for over 6 years (1998-2003), and I have never experienced a more unfriendly place for outsiders. If you are not from Savannah, do not expect to be accepted. I have lived in many different cities on the East Coast (Boston, NY, Tampa, Charlotte) and Savannah was, by far, the worst. It is has a beautiful and historic downtown, but, culturally, offers nothing. Racial tension is so thick that it is palpable. For a small city, crime is VERY bad.
Charlotte has been such a breath of fresh air after living in Savannah. Charlotte is a much more diverse, accepting environment.

Savannah is a great place. It has some pretty shady areas though. It has great history, restaurants, cultural activities, diversity, and beaches. Many of the neighborhoods are beautiful and the people very friendly. I am pretty sure that the job market is pretty good there, as some major industries operate out of Savannah, Pooler and surrounding area. Jacksonville, Fl. is only two hours away as well. I am not sure of the Indian population there, but if everyone keeps from moving there because there aren't that many, there will never be many, so why not start a trend?. Oh yes, there are a couple of Indian restaurants there. You might want to look in the yellow pages and call one of the Indians that work there. That is something that I would do, but some people think I am weird. Oh yes, there are lots of catholics there too. But to be perfectly honest, I prefer Savannah to visit and would prefer to live in Charlotte. Charlotte is lots larger and more school choices, etc.
