A good idea but it does not mean that they will eat a well balanced meal. It may be provided but there is no guarantee.

No way. Another loony left idea designed to replace parents with government.

How will people ever become responsible?

If the government (almost literally here) spoon feeds them, then people never HAVE to become responsible. Why take responsibility for yourself and your children if the government will do it for you and make you feel all warm and cozy about it because you are helping the children! You can't forget about the children!!

The article failed to mention where the money is coming from and what condition the rest of the school system's budget is in. I guess I would need to know that before I would comment on whether this is a great idea to help all children, or whether this is just another gubment handout at tax-payer expense . . . or a hand-out that is taking $$ away from other areas of the school budget.

I agree that hungry children can't learn well and that no child should go hungry . . .

There is no such thing as a free breakfast, lol. Someone is paying for it.

It's paid for with federal monies and not local funding. Still, the federal budget is in horrible shape too.

Yeah, my first thought was "Teachers are being laid off left and right, the ones who still have jobs are having to buy supplies out of their own pockets, but somehow there is money to buy Froot Loops for the kids of millionaires?" Federal or not, all govt budgets are in crisis and the deficits trickle down to all of us.

You guys are speaking from Big oversize bureaucratic school districts. Lincoln is not corrupt like the one in Mecklenburg and Wake.
Outsiders trying to speak the Gospel it up to residents of Lincoln County to decide.
Bravo Lincoln County for providing this.

Not everybody who needs and qualifies for free breakfast will sign up because they are embarrassed. This will remove the stigma.

Students who eat a better breakfast do better both in academics and behavior.

The nutrition department of most schools are a separate budget from the school budget. They are not taking money away from teachers. According to this article, this county even had a budget savings last year through smart purchasing.

Too many parents do not/cannot meet the needs of their children. Feeding breakfast is just one more example. Yes, all parents should make sure their children have a healthy breakfast, but many don't even when they can. We need to address the problem through educating the parents, but in the mean time, why not feed the children and reap the benefits!
