We live in Huntersville and have a toddler son. I put significant work into finding a daycare that I would be comfortable to leave my son.
I initially used the NC Child Care website to find the ratings of the various daycares in the area. Meeting minimal standards earns a 1 with 5 making top marks. I decided to focus on only the 4 and 5 stars. We live off Sam Furr Road and commute north for work, so we focused on the northern part of Huntersville along with Cornelius.
We ended up choosing Primrose School in Cornelius. It is a newer, very clean building. The class room size was significantly larger than the other centers I looked at. There are two lead teachers for his room with occasional help from "aides." They provide an AM and PM snack along with a full lunch. They just switched to organic milk so our rate just increased to $252/week. This is for age 1-2. We are happy with the care, however, writing the check every week is painful. But most higher quality centers in the area will run around $200-250 a week.
Our largest dilemma is that we do not actually need full-time care. But most to all centers will only do part-time either Tues & Thurs, or M, W, F options. As a nurse with a rotating schedule, I am "forced" into full time.
The other center that I considered is Kids R Kids in Huntersville. It is also 5 star. However, they did not have an opening at the time.
I am pretty sure that
www.childcareresourcesinc.org will enable you a 30 day access to search online. It gives you opening and closing times, rates, stars awarded, and contact information all in one place. I highly recommend it!
Good luck with your search. Thankfully, there are plenty of options.
