I was told to meet the person at the baggage claim.
They are coming from out of country and are juveniles, so I'd like to greet them closer to the arrival gate.
How far inside can I go without a ticket and meet-greet the person and we walk to the baggage claim area?

Thanks,

Without a ticket you cannot get past the security gate. You have to go to baggage claim.

There aren't many areas you have access to w/o a ticket so your best bet is to meet at the baggage claim area.

That's what I thought, but I remember going to the food court without a ticket, on business. I don't remember how long ago that was, though.

Talk to the airline and explain the situation (young person coming from out of the country). They will be able to make sure that they are escorted until they meet up with you.

If the are coming from outside of the country there can be no exceptions because of customs. They do give gate passes for domestic flights when necessary.
As the PP poster said they can ask an agent for help.
If you stand outside of customs, you cannot miss them. There is only one exit. They must pick up their bags before they exit the secure customs area. Ensure that they know it a 2 part process, first immirgration and than customs. It is very painless. I actually think it is easier to arrive international because you are herded the proper place.

The following countries have pre-clearance: Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, & Canada. If they are coming from one of those countries ask for a gate pass. All others require customs and immigration. You must wait outside the arrival hall for their arrival. Kids 5-17 get special assistance. An agent will escort them through the process. International arrivals are at the east end of the terminal, lower level.

Thanks,
You can usually get a gate pass if you're meeting an unaccompanied minor at the airport. You get it through the specific airline, and it allows you through security. I'd call up whichever airline they're flying to see if your circumstances would allow for one.

Yes, this. Depending on the age of the child, you will likely have to show ID at the ticket counter AND the gate to meet the child in question.

Unless you pay the unaccompanied minor fee there is no special assistance for children traveling alone. even if they are unaccompanied minors and if charlotte is their first us destination you cannot get a gate pass to meet them. If however they have changed flights elsewhere in the US then you can get a gate pass to meet them coming in through the domestic gates as they have already cleared customs elsewhere. If you are bringing them back to fly as unaccompanied minors you can get a gate pass to bring them to their gate no matter where their destination. I have spent long hours at airports seeing off my kids to far flung destinations!!!
