That particular area of SW Charlotte isn't so great, but there are other areas in Steele Creek that would be alright. Unfortunately I don't know names of complexes, but hopefully LovesMountains will jump on this thread and help you out. She is great w/apartment names! There are a couple of decent ones along 160, and a nice looking complex across from the police academy on Shopton Rd.

Thanks for the vote of confidence

Would this be the Summerfield Apartments? The area is fine - I would not steer anyone away from that area. It's the other side of I485 going north toward uptown where things get a little more worrisome.

Summerfield is relatively new and very convenient to Ayrsley with all the restaurants and movie theater. There is nothing nearby to be afraid of or concerned about that I can think of

That area of Charlotte is fine - not sure why anyone would tell you it was "really bad" Some people who don't know the city well just mistakenly think anything west of I77 is not good. But Steele Creek (which is southwest Charlotte) is a really a nice place to live!

I've lived in York Ridge Apartments for almost four years, and while it's not the same complex, it's right down the road. The area is very quiet for the most part - I haven't had a single problem with crime the whole time I've been here. There's also great shopping at Ayrsley (as lovesMountains mentioned) and Rivergate (near Steele Creek Rd.).

Good luck!

Yeah Steele Creek is great. Everything you need is right there. If you venture up S. Tryon St (Hwy 49) too far then you'll start hitting rough patches, but that area is completely fine. Enjoy Charlotte wherever you choose to live.

I could explain their reasoning to you....but I'd rather not open that can of worms.
