Where is a good area in charlotte or outside of it for a young professional to move to. An area that has nature trails, rivers or lakes, things to do outdoors, and has a countryish feel. But also is accessible to downtown.

How long a drive is acceptable? (distance &/or time) Are you looking to buy or rent, & what's your budget? Is the downtown access for work or going to bars & clubs?
I would say half an hour drive or less is what im looking for. Im looking to rent, budget is 1k or less a month. And yes access to downtown is both for work and going to bars etc.

Look on the south side of Gastonia. It will be way under your budget. Look at Kings Mountain, Crowders Mountain, & Moss Lake for outdoors activities & Gastonia gets you to uptown within your timeframe.
Look on a map & look south of Franklin Blvd, between Union & Redbud. Other streets that you will see in this area include New Hope, Garrison, Hudson, Robinwood, & Hoffman. There are lots of nice apartments in that area.
There's not much with a country feel within a half hour's drive of uptown. Certainly not during rush hour. Maybe near the lakes? But don't expect to be uptown in a half hour from either one.
May wish to look at Locust NC area. Is 20 minutes from Concord, Charlotte and Monroe.
Morrow Mtn state park is 20 minutes away and Lake Tillery as well. Will boom once economy turns around. Great highways any direction. Very country in feel

I live in Kings Mountain & drive to that area of Gatonia, frequently. Depending on exact locations, you're looking at 10 -15 minutes, on the average, depending on the route that you take. However, if you went from the far eastern side of this area to Moss Lake, you're looking at 20 - 25 minutes.
The southeastern area of Gastonia has a suburban feel to it, but that's where the nice apartments are. I think that Kings Mountain is more what you want, but it exceeds your driving time. South Gastonia gets you a compromise.
