Hi, I'm a young professional moving to Charlotte in the very near future. Can you give me your opinions and thoughts on Chantilly? What is the overall vibe? Is this a good safe neighborhood?

Thanks in advance!

Chantilly is an old established neighborhood very close to uptown Charlotte.

It is sandwiched in between the desirable Elizabeth and Plaza Midwood neighborhoods.

Prior to the recession it was in the process of transitioning back to it's former "glory", so to speak.

There are a mix of elderly original homeowners living there and DINKS who have moved in and redone many of the homes.

It is a good neighborhood, and you can't beat the quick commute into uptown from there of less than 5 minutes.

Sadly, because it is more of an "inner city" neighborhood there are a few crime issues (mainly property theft), but people I know there have all banded together with their neighbors to really look out for one anothers property. It is definitely worth a looksee when you get to Charlotte

Great neighborhood. I would live there or try Plaza Midwood or Elizabeth. All are safe and full of young people.

Chantilly resident here. One of the best neighborhoods there is IMO. It's a great mix of young people and older folks (some that have been there since the 40's when it was built). We have some very minor property theft issues but what inner city area does not? The wife and I feel very safe here and have never had any problems. We moved in about 10 years back and even then it was not a bad area.

Agree. You can tell it is full of young people by the amount of college flags hanging from the houses. I love that. I've been looking to buy there but there isn't much on the market right now. Plus, I always like a neighborhood with sidewalks since I have a dog.
