My husband ran a heating and air conditioning business in NJ for 12 years and now works for other companies, managing and supervising. We would like to know what the average incomes is in the Charlotte area for a HVAV supervisor or installer? Are the job plentiful or hard to get, especially for a Yank?

my husband was operations manager for an appliance and hvac repair company for a few years in NY before we moved to charlotte. he had a HARD time finding a job here as a manager/supervisor in the business. installing/repair is easier to find a job in, but my husband needed moretraining for that and the companies weren't willing to do that. but your husband has more experience in the field, so hopefully that will help him out in his job search! my husband sweared that being a "yankee" worked against him as a lot of the places he was interviewed in were in more rural areas with very "southern" workers. after a couple months af no work, he finally got hired at a manufacturing business as a parts manager. good luck!

It depends on what licenses he has, is he Nate certified? Air balancing? EPA? etc.
If you have excellent training and licenses and get in with one of the top companies, your income can be 65,000 to 100,000.00 depending on how good one is (how many call backs do you get from not fixing it right the 1st time etc) and what kind of sales person one is.
I would suggest not going into the job or job interview using the work "Yank".
My son is in this business, he is licensed to the hilt, and makes a lucrative living. He is also originally from the midwest and had no trouble securing a job. He started out at a small company (he was fresh out of school)
and as he drew more experience he worked his way up to a top company. The top companies require not only all the certifications and licenses one can get, but you can not have any visable tattoo either and be kind of clean cut.
May be a little hard to come into a brand new town, with a brand new company and start out as a "supervisor".

My brother in NY applied for tons of jobs and had 4 soild job offers before he even considered leaving ny. HVAC jobs are abundant here.
I would advice to come down check it out and then apply before you move down. I would say considering my brother's sucess, you'd be sucessful too.
Welcome and good luck.

What newspaper would you suggest subscribing to, to get a feel for the area and job market. Especially if we want to stay in the Matthews/Weddington area?

Charlotte.com : Charlotte news, events, Panthers, Bobcats, jobs, cars, homes (http://www.charlotte.com - broken link) The Charlotte Observer is on line.
To look for jobs though it will take you right to careerbuilder.com
From what I have seen, is the smaller companies will send you all over the Charlotte metro area, the larger companies, will give you districts that you split up with the other installers/techs.

HVAC Service Manager
My husband and I owned a Heating & Air Conditioning business in NH for 7 years and recently moved to NC- He has been in the business for 15+ years. We have been looking for a Sevice manager job to no avail. He has been doing HVAC sales for a Big comapny since August 2007 (when we moved here) I ran the company in NH until December when we decided to close shop.Winters in NE are rough! He is fully licensed by the state of NC ( which we were told was a hard test to pass) he aced 1st time!
Hoping someone out there knows of a company looking for an experienced service/installer.
Any leads will help.
Thanks
