Hello Everyone,

I value the great information available at City-Data! My wife and I are in the process of relocating to the Charlotte area after spending 2+ years in Minneapolis. We are originally from the East Coast and wanted to get closer to family and friends.

My wife has been with Lowes for the past 3 months while I searched for employment from MN. We currently have an apartment in Mooresville. I have secured a position in Matthews and will be starting in mid-August. Our challenge is finding a location to live that will be ideal from a commuting standpoint for both parties!

I fear living north would be great for my wife but difficult for me and vice versa. What area would you recommend that would optimize commuting times? Or should I just bite the bullet and minimize my wife's commute and live north (such as Huntersville)?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I think Huntersville would be a good comprise. That is a little closer for you to get to work and not a bad commute for her to get to Mooresville. What kind of hours are you both working? If one of you is working off hours (not 9-5) then the commute wouldn't be so bad for that person. Need more info to give a more informed answer!

I suggest Concord or Harrisburg. You could jump on to I-485 and get to Matthews in 15-20 minutes. Your wife could take backroads all the way to Mooresville and never see traffic or interstate. May be a 20-25 minute drive for her as well. These areas are in Cabarrus County, which means lower taxes. Both are up and coming and plenty of nice developments around.

I appreciate your response gabmac. We will both work from 8-5. My wife will be taking our son to daycare in Mooresville as well.
