Would you please give some advice for somebody who wants to move to NC near Charlotte. As I say, I am looking for a safe, nice, vibrant, ideally walkable small city, no more than 30-35 miles from Charlotte. Ideally also, a place where for under $200.000 you can buy a good, small house.
Thank you very much.

Mint Hill. It isn't exactly "vibrant" but fits all other criteria. Huntersville might be good too...

Where would your job be? Do you need schools?

I don't have kids in school, therefore I am not interested from this point of view in schools quality.
I am semiretired. I like to move to a place near a big city, where eventually I can open a small B&B or a special daycare. I am willing to pay more than $200.000 if I find the right house, as I said, in a safe, nice place, where you don't need a car to go and buy bread. Because of that I am leaving Florida.
Thanks.

To be able to walk to the grocery you'll need to live actually in Charlotte. The towns surrounding Charlotte are either spread out themselves because they are rural or too small to have much to walk to. You might try looking at other parts of NC like Hickory, Statesville or Mt. Airy.

What about Davidson? It has a super cute downtown and I think you could find something reasonable there.

Not for only $200,000 I'm afraid.

What about Belmont? Anyone shed some light there? I thought that area was cute when I was there.

Belmont does indeed have a cute little downtown, just like Matthews, Concord, Mooresville, Waxhaw. Fort Mill and lots of other little towns surrounding Charlotte. The problem is, other than Davidson and Mint Hill I can't think of any with real grocery stores close enough to walk to. Davidson is out because of the price range, so that leaves lovely little Mint Hill as the winner

OP, time to investigate what's for sale in Mint Hill near it's town center (intersection of Lawyers Rd and Hwy 51).

Thank you everybody for help. Let's thank also city-data and the moderator for such a civil, informative, sometimes funny forum. In a few weeks I will make the trip and tell you my impressions. Should I go also in the Raleigh triangle, or the prices are already in the sky ?
