My daughter who is 16 is suffering with anxiety so bad her scalp bleeds. She is so emotional and hardly sleeps at night. Does anyone have a recommendation? I have some recommendations from her doctor that we had seen today but would like to know more about them before scheduling an appointment.
she is failing in school, forgets things, has test anxiety, bad attitude but sweet at times.
The doctor recommended Teen Health Connection but did not know much about them.

The poor kid

Call Teen Health Connection first thing tomorrow! Anxiety is a very treatable disorder, there is no reason for your daughter to be suffering this way. You'll be directed to all the help you need when you get in touch with them.

Best of luck!

TEEN HEALTH CONNECTION

I have been through it all, my daughter was suffering from anxiety, depression and suicide. It takes the right treatment and connection for your child. I recommend Dr. Madhu Engineer:
Madhu Engineer MD
7820 Ballantyne Commons Parkway Suite
Charlotte, NC 28277
Phone: (704) 341-2191
Dr. Engineer gives very early appointments, like 7 am.

I also second the Teen Health Connection, spent plenty of time there talking to various doctors. I've been through a gamut of doctors here in Charlotte and all but one was good. Billingsley at Randolph runs a group afterschool for teens to help deal with stress and one for the parents at the same time, so that you may learn and understand her disorder. The Teen Health Connection can provide you with information on this.

Good luck with your daughter! PM for more information. I'll be happy to talk with you on the phone.

I feel for your daughter - it sounds like she is having a really rough time. I know you asked for a physician referral, but based on your description, I am sure any competent physician would refer her for therapy. I would be reluctant to start her on any medications until she is evaluated by a competent psychologist and an accurate diagnosis is made. Anxiety and sleep medications are not something to be taken lightly, especially for a teenager. If you are in the South Charlotte area you might consider Helene Laurenti, Ph.D. She is a psychologist whose office is on Rea Road near Stonecrest. One of her areas of expertise is anxiety disorders and she works with adolescents. Best of Luck and don't give up until you get your daughter some relief!

At this point several steps need to be taken for a good "diagnosis" of her problems..If your doctor seems well informed and you trust his judgment follow his suggestions for further evaluation. If she suffers from a true mental disorder it needs to be treated now...at this point no one knows.
