Does anyone know of any casual bars with lots of nice outdoor seating similar to wine-vault (near UNCC) that are on the south side of Charlotte (Matthews/Ballantyne/Providence)?

Just moved out to Indian Trail from the UNCC area and the short trip Wine Vault is going to be missed during the warm part of the year. Hoping for something similar closer to where we are now.

Any thoughts?!

TIA

There are several places with outdoor seating in Ballantyne and Matthews.

I'm not sure what the Wine Vault is like, but most bars serve wine. And there is a place in Ballantyne called D'vine Wine Cafe.

Home - D'Vine Wine Cafe

Lots of outdoor seating in that plaza (Ballantyne Village) and 4 nice places to eat and drink.. VILLAGE BISTRO, JADE ASIAN FUSION & SUSHI BAR, VILLA ANTONIO.

Nice spot to hang out. Villa's even does a DJ and dance floor on Friday/Saturday nights..

Wine Vault is mostly outdoor and some indoor seating. Two full size coolers of various beers, and tons of wine by the bottle and a few select types by the glass depending on the night. They dont serve any prepared food, and dont have a wait staff.

Basically its a first come first serve for seating and you just go choose what you want to drink and check out (more like a store than a bar), if you get a bottle of wine they give you glasses. No waiters, just a few people clearing tables as they empty.

Its main appeal it that you dont feel rushed by a waiter so they can flip a table, so you can take your time, people watch, whatever. Obviously this leads to crowds and a little table hawking but it makes the place feel like a 'hot spot'. Some people bring their dogs out there, they have live music usually an acoustic guitar or other mellow solo act. Really a great spot.

D'Vine looks like the closest thing.

What's great about The Wine Vault is the proximity to restaurants. You can now get almost any type of cuisine within steps of Wine Vault. Great for trying to sober up!

Yea it really is one of the best places in Charlotte. Wine Vault and knowing all the bartenders at picassos are the most missed parts of moving thus far. No good local sports bars or outdoor loungey bars, which is really all i want.

There are some nice sports bars in the area..

Hickory Tavern
Bean Town Tavern
Christophers
BonFire

Those are the ones I like, but multiply that by 10 at least. That wouldn't even scratch the surface. There are loads of places to watch sports in SE Charlotte area.

Bean Town Tavern is a low-key "hang -out" kind of place with decent "bar food". You can watch sports there. Vinnies (in Matthews) also has outdoor seating. There's no "people-watching" aspect like at the Wine Vault and it's an older crowd.

Vinnies is no longer in Matthews, they closed down. A few of the regulars there opened a new bar in that location called 'Fins'
