I've been watching Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and lately he's been going to alot of South American countries and Spain. Several times he's eaten whole roasted suckling pigs and has piqued my interest and since our city has a thriving Hispanic community I figure there HAS to be some place that serves this.

Does anyone know of such a place in the area?

On South Blvd just south of Tyvola (right hand side if your going southbound) I noticed a place that had a sign saying "Roasting Whole Pigs Since..."

It is kind of set back from the road with a little parking lot. It's a red building. Ugh I can picture it but can't remember the name.

Another place that sells pigs in entirety is Hillbilly's , on Tyvola. It is on the left , immediately past the trestle , coming from S.Blvd. I've eaten the catered chicken , and pork BBQ. The chicken was wonderful , couldn't have did better myself in 1000 years. The BBQ was unseasoned , but purchasing a precooked Boston butt from there will circumvent this problem. When I picked one up , it was $56USD , but weights vary.

It was traditional in the South to roast a whole hog or pig in a BBQ pit. It's a lot of meat. On the other hand a suckling pig is a small baby piglet that is killed and cooked as a meal. This wouldn't be something that you would normally find at a Southern BBQ. You might have to go to more ethnic places or possibly a real high end restaurant to find suckling pig.

Have not personally seen whole suckling pigs for sale locally, but Grand Asian Market sells whole roasted duck (head and feet intact).

That ethnic grocery store next to Carmax {I cannot think of the name for the life of me} sells whole pigs...I don't know if they are sucklings or not.

Is this show do they serve them whole and that is why they are suckling?

Suckling pigs are just that, still suckling their mother's milk. They are killed 2-4 weeks after birth for this dish because it's supposed to be very tender and sweet tasting meat.

I know what a suckling pig is...I am just wondering if, since they are small, they are served whole. Because you sure couldn't serve a whole momma pig...the plate isn't big enough.
