Hi, we are looking at houses in the 28215 zip code. The Cambridge Commons Dr area. We will be heading in all directions, downtown, UNCC and north burbs on a daily bases. Our kids are college age, so schools are not a big factor for us, but we would want good ones for resale and such.

Any feedback on the crime, traffic and general life in the area.

Thanks,

nyfornow (now a proud resident of NC)

Cambridge is in an area of a lot of foreclosures, which is a shame as it's a beautiful area of the county.

One home I looked up there sold for $118,000 when it was brand new in 1993. At it's height of value its worth was $140,000. It sold last month for $87,000.

Now, if you are going to stay put a while and make this a home for the long term you might make a heck of a deal right now around there.

But for the foreseeable future you would be living among properties that are being abandoned and not kept up. Some owners are undoubtably renting to less qualified renters just to get someone paying something on the home. These kinds of situations often lead to having undesirable neighbors.

Just be careful to do your due diligence when researching where to buy

Forgot to say, since you are already apparently living here you can really take your time to get to know areas by seeing them at different times of the day and night to help you in your search

Thanks lovesMountains,

Yes, I'm in the north burbs, but looking for something more permanent and centrally located for the family. I did notice the number of empty homes in the development. All in all it looked like a nice area. We plan another trip to look at more houses. If anyone has some thoughts please post them.

Thanks.
