I going back to school this fall at UNCC and am thinking about catching the bus from Uptown to UNCC instead of buying a car and driving to campus for the next two years.

Has anybody recently used this method of transportation to get to school? Was it a bad ride, what type of people were on the bus to and from? Any input can and will be helpful!

Thank you!

May

It goes through a pretty rough neighborhood, and gets very crowded at times, but I never had a problem on it the years I rode it 2000-2004, then again from 2009-2010. That said, I probably wouldn't take it late at night. It takes about 35 minutes from uptown depending on traffic and drops you off right in front of the Fretwell.

Depending on where you're coming from (and if your classes are during the day), you can take the 29 Southpark-UNCC bus, which is a lot more pleasant and less crowded but runs less frequently and takes longer.

Thanks for this! This information really helps a lot. Would you happen to remember how frequently 29 runs, if it goes through downtown, where I'd be coming from and how long it took? As far as the other bus, would you say its safe for a young woman?

My son took the #11 all last semester between UNCC (where he lived and was enrolled) and CPCC (where he took some additional classes). The best thing about the bus service was that it ran all day and late at night, unlike the express bus to Huntersville, which is a fast ride but does not run after 8 pm. He did say it took a long time with frequent stops. He never reported any problems.

No, the 29 does not go through uptown and only runs every 45 minutes from about 7 in the morning to 7 at night M-F (you can check the CATS website for more info). It takes a route through from South Park Mall through Cotswald and up SHaron Amity, to Shamrock and through some neighborhoods there to the Plaza, where it hits Harris, stops at the CPCC Cato campus, then heads to 49 to campus.

The 11 can be sardine like but I've actually taken it from uptown to University Hospital because it was faster than unparking from the restricted parking lot and they run every 15 minutes or so.

I am moving to Huntersville and will be going to UNCC in the fall. Are there buses that run from the suburbs to the college?

you will need to take the express bus 48 or regular route bus 77 from Hunterville and transfer at the transportation center to the Uncc bus 29

Here is a route planner CATS - Home

Google Maps (click Get Directions) also has all the CATS route info in it. This is good for those that can access the site from inside a bus because it knows where you are and adjusts accordingly.
