When I move my son will be 2. What can I expect to pay for daycare. It runs between 500-800 monthly here. Is it the same in Charlotte? Are there mostly home daycares or Centers. Do you guys have drop in daycares? Thanks for you help.

do a search on this board for daycare, and you'll be able to read a slew of past threads on this subject.

You need to spend some time and go to the NC Division Of Child Care website and it will give you the break down and specific on daycares including their license and what types of violations they have if any. So, with this information you can then determine if you want to contact the state to verify the information to see what type of violation they have or had.

I found relgious based daycares to be more nurturing and enjoyable then the chain daycare because they tend to worry more about profits. I used bright horizions and they had too many layers of management. THey had 4 teachers, then a lead teacher, for each age group, then another over that group, then a 'master teacher'. We parents were paying alot of salaries.

Also, don't judge based soley on money. Kids change quite a bit and your needs may change. At 4 years old sometimes, depending on your school system they may offer 'free' public preschool depending on their educational needs. You can look into that more also, it's usually called more at 4. Good Luck.

Thanks XNY Girl. I know there are other things to consider besides the cost. Right now I am just trying to figure out the average cost of everything in order to have an idea of what kind of Salary I will need to request. I have been trying to figure out the average cost of apartments, utilities, daycare ect.
Here in CT I had a huge problem with the large Chain Daycare. They were letting parents drop off sick kids and my son had 8 ear infections and 3 stomach bugs all in the course of 10 months. I removed him and actually found a nice Christian home center and I couldn’t be happier. He is now happy and healthy, I just wish I could bring her with us.

Childcare is one of the things I found to be the same price in CA as NC. I was expecting it would be less, but it hasn't been the case.

I have a 3 year old in Waxhaw Development Center and am paying $175/wk.
