I hope I am doing this right, this is the first time of me posting any questions.....
My husband is a carpenter and will need a job when we move to the Indian Trail area, he has all of his own tools, truck and utility trailer. He has 20 yrs experience in home improvements. He has built 4 houses and is a very eager worker. What we need to know is what is the earning potential for him and where do you go to find work with someone who will pay benefits. Right now, he owns his own business, and i work for the benefits. When we move, I will be staying home with our 3 kids, so he will need the benefits.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Could he apply to one of the many builders in the area? Not sure how that works though.

Thanks for responding!
That was a thought, but it looks like they sub all of their work out. So I don't think that he would be employed by the builder. (to get benefits, anyway) We saw online a place called Handyman Matters, we never heard of it here on Long Island, so not sure how that works either..

Does he happen to be able to build any furniture? I've got a talented carpenter I just engaged for some built-ins who has recently opened his own shop. He was telling me that its very hard to find talented carpenters to employ.

Yes, he loves finish carpentry, cabinetry, all that good stuff. He takes pride in his work and very reliable. (That is why I married him!!) Let me know if that carpenter would like a resume....
Thanks!!

Wow, this sounds extremely risky if he doesn't have something lined up already. What happens if you guys move down and he can't get quality work w/benefits? If you or the kids get sick? It'll cost you a small fortune to pay the doctor/hospital.
I'm assuming you havent' exactly committed yet and are in the planning stages of moving, correct?

yes, we are in the planning stages. We want to make sure that he can find what he is looking for before we take the leap! If he can find work, he will go there ahead of me.

A skilled carpenter who will show up for work every day will have plenty of opportunity to work in the area. What's a dime a dozen are layabouts who show up when they please - and yet they're rarely fired because it's too hard to find skilled labor. Depending on the specialty, carpenters usually make $15-$25 per hour. If he wants to make more, there are lots of opporunities for superintendents - making in the $60k neighborhood - but they're worked really hard.

Saussy Burbank has an office in Charlotte you might try them. There is also a builder/remodeler/handyman service called Bainbridge Crew, they are quite expensive so hopefully they pay their prople well!
