Hello all!

We are a young couple (getting married in about a year...wedding planning is crazy!), and have relocating to Raleigh and just took the NC bar exam. We are starting to get concerned about the legal job market in Raleigh and are starting to think charlotte might have been a better choice.

For any charlotte lawyers out there, what is the legal market like for those that are not from NC law schools?? Any reccommendations for new lawyers in the area?? What are the best places to locate charlotte legal jobs??

Thanks in advance!

Hi, and good luck on passing the bar! I am not in Charlotte yet but I have been checking various sites posting attorney positions. I must say that I have not found a lot for entry level attorneys, but then again, I have been praticing for almost ten years and have been focused on higher level positions.

Finance and real estate law seem to be most prevalent in Charlotte. If those areas interest you, you have a better chance even at the entry level. You can check monster and careerbuilder internet sites.

One of my former interns moved to NC (Charlotte), took and passed the bar, then got a job with a small plaintiff's firm in Raleigh. So it can be done. At the entry level, it is definitely easier to find a job if you have already passed the bar and are living in the state. When you apply for jobs, emphasize every ounce of experience you have, be it internships, summer clerkships etc. And don't be afraid to take a job that is not exactly what you want. After you get your first legal job, you will forever join the ranks of experienced attorneys. Good luck!
