I'm moving out of my current South End complex and moving in with a friend this May. Elizabeth/Chantilly is one of our front runner neighborhoods (along with Dilworth and Montford/Selwyn). We love its local character and charm! We both have dogs and are in our early 20s. For those that live there, do you feel safe walking around at night? Do people regularly walk from Elizabeth to Plaza Midwood for additional nightlife and restaurants? Lastly, does anyone have 2 bedroom rental recommendations for less than $1,200/mo? We're open to apartments, condos or houses. Thanks so much! Feel free to add in your favorite Elizabeth spots. Always love hearing about those!
Pecan Ave connects Elizabeth with P-M, crossing under Independence and over the railroad. It can't be too bad, the "Cupcake Van" parks there to sell pastries to people walking by. The street improvements being installed at the end of Commonwealth will help make the area feel more pedestrian oriented.
I will show you a picture I took the one time I was in the Elizabeth neighborhood. It looked very charming and comfortable by the way. I saw several people walking, including with dogs and with babies. The owners of this house had built a fairly elaborate dog fountain on the corner for passing dog walkers to use. How charming is that?
I lived in Elizabeth for about 10 years (leaving to buy a home ten years ago) and loved it. The best way, which I assume you've tried?. is to drive around and see what places have signs in front of them. The most I've seen recently are on the "out of town" side of Lauren between 4th and 7th. If you're in that part of the neighborhood it would be pretty far to walk over to Plaza Midwood (although not terrible if you prefer to not have to worry about drinking and driving and don't want to get a cab.) But there are several popular places in Elizabeth - Jacks & Philospher Stone. I wouldn't hestitate to walk at night with someone, but rarely did that alone as a female. During the day I had no hestitation and loved walking through Independence Park to see the view of uptown.
