I may be taking a job in Charlotte and moving there from Atlanta within the next few weeks. I was wondering what areas of the city are the best to live in as far as having plenty to do (restaurants, lounges, parks, safe, etc.) I'm in my mid 30's, educated, professional, and would like an area that is similar to Midtown Atlanta that has nice high rises to live in. Any recommendations of the neighborhoods I should live in?
Im in my Mid 30s--I would also recommend South End (some apartments and condos in that area)--its also close to downtown, which parts of it are also good to live in. The nightlife in downtown is young though--a few bars are not bad, but weekends are filled with the 20 something crowd. The Epicenter is a mecca for that age. Afterwork downtown is not as bad during the week- but for happy hours.
South End area is historic, nice and safe--around the general area of East Blvd and South blvd intersection--has many restaurants and a few bars not too far from there.
I live in the South Park area, which is a great area, but mostly families, a mall (upscale shopping), and restaurants. Very safe though.
The advice upthread sounds reasonable. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge as a single guy in his 30s though, and I say that as a fellow single guy in his 30s. It seems like every woman in Charlotte between the ages of 25 and 40 is taken! I'm exaggerating of course, but sometimes that's what it feels like, especially if you've lived in other big cities with lots of singles.
