Hi, I am German too

I don't use my German in my current job (management & technology consulting) but there are tons of companies w/ German ties in the area. Please check out this link:

Geschäftsumfeld, deutsche Firmen in Charlotte NC– Angie Adams SRES CSP CRT

which lists a number of German companies in the area. And then there's always BMW in Spartanburg, SC. Good luck!

Default Try Legal staffing site

I know of several law firms in the area that could use German speakers. You might try contacting one of the legal temp services (Legal Staffing, etc) - they may be able to find you a position. You might also want to contact The International House in Charlotte and have yourself listed as a translator. Good luck!

The Smith Academy of International Languages (Mecklenburg County Public Schools)
is a full immersion language school in German, French, Japanese, Chinese, & Spanish. If you want an opportunity to make some money while you search, maybe you could be a substitue. It is K-8th grade.

What great advice! Just thought I should bring this to everyone's attention again...

Mark,

Here is a link for a company that offers over the phone translation services. You work from your home and can do it on a contract basis. My wife worked for them as a full time interpretor, but when they switched to contractor only, she moved on.

Career Opportunities for Telephone Interpreters at Language Line Services

Hope this works for you.

Have you tried the German immersion school - Smith Language Academy on Tyvola. There may be some kids there who need tutoring over the summer months.

I'm not perfect at german, but I can definitely work my around it and have more than a decent understanding of it and can also speak it accent-free. I can also speak fluent farsi and I'm in my second year of College. Any ideas/recommendations? I live in Charlotte, NC as well..I've only got a 2 year job experience for a background.
