I'll be moving to Charlotte later this summer with my wife and two girls (4 and 1). I'll be working in Uptown and looking for a neighborhood with a 30 minute or under commute. My home price will be approximately $650k for a 4 bedroom. I'd like to be able to send my girls to public school through elementary school than private school. Any suggestions on neighborhoods I should focus on?
The private schools are all in south Charlotte so if you are planning on staying in that home until middle school I would suggest Foxcroft, Barclay Downs, Royden, etc.
You need to get a good buyers agent that is familiar with south Charlotte.
650K will buy you a lot of home in Charlotte. What are you looking for in a neighborhood. If you are interested in north of Charlotte I would recommend Davidson, Cornelius, Mooresville or Huntersville.
They all are family friendly and an easy commute into uptown and there are a lot of good school choices - especially in elementary. You can probably even find something on Lake Norman at the high end of your budget.

Hmmm North Charlotte/Concord has plenty of Private schools from smaller affordable all the way to Davidson Day and Cannon.
You will have many choices. Consider South Charlotte inside 51 (Pineville/Matthews Road). What are you looking for in a home or community? For example, older/newer, community amenities, those sorts of things?
Do they still have houses in Clt for 650? My Lord dats a lot of money and I thought dem days were over.
Indeed, there are not any new subdivisions that are coming on-line in this price range because this market has essentially collapsed. Look at that Developer's wet dream from last year, also known as HomeArama, where they were building homes in the $600K range. The developer has gone bust and other than the few show homes built, it's an abandoned development. There are no federal backstopped loans (FHA) available in the 650K price range and the banks won't loan unless the party has impecabble credit and a large down payment. 99.9% of American's can't qualify. Hence an oversupply. Good news, should be easy to work a deal from desperate sellers. Bad news, buying a home in a market that can't support it.
I can't imagine why anyone thinks it's a good idea to take on a place like this, but they are there if you want them. That Home Arama location meets the OPs specifications. It's located off Exit 25 on I-77 North. Can sign up the kiddies to go to Lake Norman Charter School. Long waiting list but plus is that you don't have to pay tuition.

If you would like to live outside of the city you can live in the Monroe area. Its a 45 minute commute to down town Charlotte but its a nice area and you would get alot of house for what you are willing to pay.
