A Shelby man won in a category of the annual Bulwer-Lytton writing contest, sponsored by the English Dept. of San Jose University, in CA. The object of the contest is to write something original that's awful.

Here's an article from the Shelby Star (including the winning entry). Shelby man wins award for bad writing | shelby, wins, writing - The Star Online : The Newspaper of Cleveland County (http://www.shelbystar.com/news/shelby-57033-wins-writing.html - broken link)

Here's a link to the contest's website, if anyone is inclined to try their luck. http://www.bulwer-lytton.com/

This is what Wiki says about the contest. Bulwer

If you want to try your luck at this, good luck & may you come up with something truly dreadful.

Pretty darn good! I mean, bad!

“From the limbs of ancient live oaks moccasins hung like fat black sausages — which are sometimes called boudin noir, black pudding or blood pudding, though why anyone would refer to a sausage as pudding is hard to understand and it is even more difficult to divine why a person would knowingly eat something made from dried blood in the first place — but be that as it may, our tale is of voodoo and foul murder, not disgusting food.”

LOL, I thought is was good entertainment. Reminded me of Dan Ackroyd doing an old Saturday Night Live skit that was a take-off of a PBS series. "Wonderfully bad."

Who knows? Maybe we'll have some more winners in the area.
