Hello,

This is my first post so bear with me!

My husband is being transferred to Charlotte and we need to find a place to live ASAP. He's working at Bank of America in their corporate offices and we are trying to figure out where to live. We'll be renting first, since we've only visited a handful of times and need a lot longer to decide where we want to be!

We are looking to rent a single family home, and since we have a young son we want to be in a family friendly area, we want a more suburban feel and really a 45 minute max commute for my husband.

We like both the Matthews area and Huntersville areas, and could really go to either area but I was wondering if one would be better for his commute. I looked it up via google, but that really only gives you an idea, if anyone has first hand knowledge I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

IMO the commute from Huntersville would be much better than Matthews. Independence Blvd is overcrowded and packed with traffic lights. While interstate 77 gets really clogged at the peak of rush hour, the commute would still not be as bad as Independence/Hwy 74. Good luck in your move.

Seems to me there was a topic here that just compared the drives from the two places, you might want to look for it. The commute from either place is not that good but I suppose that it depends upon your tolerance for bad traffic.

The commute from Huntersville is quite easy as long as you are not trying to go at a peak hour like 8:30 and even then you can get in under 45 minutes. Huntersville also has an Express bus into Uptown that is really convenient.

Welcome to Charlotte!

I may actually suggest looking South to Fort Mill. The commute to Uptown Charlotte often takes less time from there than it does Huntersville. Also, the school system in Fort Mill blows Charlotte/Meck schools away. South Carolina is also more friendly on the wallet. We relocated to the area almost 4 years ago, and we do not regret choosing South Carolina at all.

If I had a job I would want to live as close to it as possible.

You certainly don't have to go as far away as Matthews or Huntersville for a suburban feel. Charlotte is more like a collection of suburbs than a city once you get outside the beltway.

I live in Matthews and my commute time is 25 - 35 minutes depending on the time of year and whether or not I get stuck behind the guy on Idlewild who rides his bike. Yes, there are a lot of lights and 74 does slow down but my coworker lives in Huntersville and from what he tells me our times are about the same.
