Relative is relocating to Charlotte soon and will need a rental for <$1200/mo. A house w/ garage would be preferred to an apartment, but the safety of the neighborhood is the top priority. Job requires flying for work (40+ wks/yr), so minimizing the drive to the airport is also important. SO doesn't have a job lined up yet, hence the low rent; at least that commute isn't a concern right now.

Any suggestions about rentals that meet those parameters? Are any builders doing leases on inventory they can't move? They don't want to buy until they've lived in the area for a year and are reasonably certain about their jobs.

If keeping the drive to the airport under 20 minutes isn't feasible, where would you suggest they look? When not traveling, the job location is uptown, so I wouldn't want to recommend an area too far west of the airport.

Thanks!

Tell them to look in Belmont (the town), then Cramerton & the SE corner of Gastonia.

Too bad, the nice rental on my street just went occupied this weekend. It met your criteria and is within 15 mins of the airport; was on the market less than 2 weeks.

If you're in the area, there are MANY "for rent" signs along Mt.Holly-Huntsville Rd from WT Harris and Brookshire/16. The neighborhoods are a little older and are quiet, and many don't get advertised online. This area is a good area and is within a very short commute to the airport. The town of Mt Holly is another good area, but most of the rentals will be smaller, older and most likely without a garage.

Steele Creek would be a good location to look into, this is going to put you in the area of 485 / S Tryon/49. Many subdivisions in the area.

Belmont, Cramerton or Mount Holly is where you will want to look for closest distance to the airport.

Thanks to all of you (including the DM.) It will help enormously for them to have a short list of areas to research.
