Hello. My husband, 1 1/2 yr old son and I are moving to the Charlotte area soon. Husband has new job position and I will be searching for a dental hygiene position.
I like the towns of Huntersville or Davidson but am torn as to which I prefer.
The schools are important as is the whole package.
Any thoughts on either town? Or do you live there?
Thanks for the imput!

I would chose Huntersville because from what I read about Davidson county, there is a nuclear plant nearby and alot of people get cancer from their water not too far from them. If you have time to research on the internet, you will find the info about the problems. I found out by subscribing the newspaper and read it, since I lives in FL and planning to move to NC this summer. It helps me to make a wise decision before the move. Just thought you need to know.

There is NO nuclear plant in Davidson, NC!!!!!!!
I just wanted to clear this up because Cakeprincess gave you some incorrect information (no disrespect to cakeprincess). Davidson, NC is not actually in Davidson County...it's in Mecklenburg County and there is absolutely NO nuclear plant there. It's right next to Huntersville, NC. I've lived in Davidson for the last 3 years and absolutely love it. Davidson is a bit slower paced, the little downtown area which consists of Main Street is small but quaint and the school system is great. They do a lot for children in the summer such as pony rides, face painting, little festivals...they also have "Concerts on the Green" which is a lot of fun for both adults and children. I absolutely love Davidson and would recommend it to anyone, especially those who have children. You can look up "town of Davidson online"...the website isn't that great but it may provide you with some additional info you might be looking for.
Good luck with your move :-)

Ambry - thanks for my attention - I went back and re-read the newspaper article about the nuclear plant - you are correct. It was in Davidson County - not Davidson town. Sorry for my mistake.
I haven't make a decision where do we want to move into. That's why it's important for me to find out if the area is safe, like low-crime, less polluted, no nuclear plant, etc. I grew up in PA and I'm lucky that I survived the Three Miles Island nuclear accident in PA back then. Even though I lived in a house there, I wasn't home when it happened. The thought of happening to me again is scary and that's why I researched carefully before I buy a house. Earlier, I had thought about living in Apex, NC - but according to internet research, there IS a nuclear plant not too far from Apex/Holly Spring. I double-checked it and it's true. So moving to Apex is out of a question for me.
Again, sorry for my mistake with Davidson thing.

Davidson or Huntersville? Rock Hill, SC
Scout,
Being a native of Mecklenburg county and having friends that live in both Davidson and Huntersville, I can tell you it is cheaper to live in Huntersville. However, if you check all the tax records for surrounding counties you'll find your best bet is to move to SC and cross the border to go to work (if you work in Charlotte). I live in Rock Hill and have no trouble commuting to Charlotte on a daily basis. Taxes are cheaper, less crime and the people are wonderful here.

Both Huntersville and Davidson are great places to live. In Huntersville, you'll be a little closer to all your basic conveniences and also closer to the interstates and Charlotte. All areas in northern Mecklenburg County up to Iredell County (Mooresville) are safe, clean, have good schools, friendly people, etc. I live in Huntersville which was voted the 78th best place to live in America by Money Magazine and I love it. Feel free to ask me any questions about the general Lake Norman area and I can answer them.
Also, to clear things up, there is a nuclear plant around Huntersville and Davidson but it's nothing to worry about. It's called McGuire Nuclear plant. It's a power plant and others are all over the state as well as other states I'm sure. If you're within 100 miles of one and a catastrophe happens, you're toast (or you may not be toast at all). That's just the way things are and I don't know of any place where you're completely safe so you simply don't think about it. It's no big deal and it shouldn't be dramatized by other outside of the area.
Feel free to email me.

Rubbermade is in Huntersville and the schools are good in the area. You can look at Huntersville, Cornelius or Davidson (do not know your price range) or even over in Denver or up in Mooresville.
