Hi all,
We are relocating from the north (far north) and I will be working near Hickory but for family reasons (schools and sports) I would like to be near Charlotte with an "easier" direct commute to Hickory.
We are going to rent a house (not unlimited budget, but budget is good) but looking for good schools, proximity to Charlotte (20 minutes drive w/o traffic) and within 40 minute drive to Hickory.
I have two kids (6 & 5) that would be going to school...
Any suggestions? I know this is a strange request, but I certainly appreciate any insight.
Thanks.

Look into Denver NC, its the best midway point between the two cities. It is part of Lincoln County good schools 43 minute commute to Hickory and 40 minutes to Charlotte

if you really need 20 minutes to charlotte, look at Mt. Island lake area (Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd. has quite a few family neighborhoods to choose from)

Depending on which route you take into Hickory, you have quite a few places to choose from (Denver, Gastonia, Stanley/Iron Station). If you need to commute east of US 321 in Hickory, I would go with towns near NC 16 (that road is now a 4 lane 55 mph freeway from I-485 in Charlotte to 5-6 miles into Catawba county). If west of 321 is your destination, I'd look into Gastonia.

You could buy a helicopter. Charlotte, Hickory and 20 minutes are not things that go together.

Thanks for the advice. There are many reasons why these things have to go together...but I'll keep that to myself.
I'll avoid Spanky's BBQ for fear of more sarcasm.

Overall, you've been given good advice, but you don't say where in Charlotte you need to be 20 minutes from, so. . . also look at Cramerton & Huntersville.

SB - agree.
20 minutes from Charlotte, direction of Hickory...thought that was clear. Trying to reduce my commute, and for family reasons, proximity to Charlotte.
My family is certainly becoming more excited for our move to Charlotte. The wife and I will visit October 5, and I am trying to make the process easier on her...originally, she is from Oregon, but has lived in the extreme North the past 9 years. She is looking forward to the weather, community and the south!
