In the 90's, on my many trips between Atlanta and Raleigh, Charlotte frequently had a visible dark brown layer of smog at its horizon.

In April I flew from Atlanta to Charlotte to Raleigh, and all of central NC had visible smog.

The first time I had to drive in from Concord to Charlotte I was coming down 49. And the thing I noticed the most? How blue gray smoggy the sky was.
I never knew that they had such dirty air, kind of shocked me.

Did Atlanta have visible smog as well, being as how it's even "smoggier" than Charlotte?

Does anyone know if there is good or reliably accurate daily air quality monitor on the internet that one can use for the Charlotte area? Denver has one which helps to be able to not drive in on really bad air quality days. I am pretty sensitive to smog.

Thanks, that one looks like it really pinpoints precise areas.

The smog condition is all relative. It depends on whether the air is stagnant or not. I do find it very hard to believe that Charlotte is even in the top ten in regards to the "smoggiest city". I am sure that on some hot summer days it is but not as a genera rule.
