I was over in the Triangle yesterday, and from end to end, all of the interstates and secondary roads I drove on were newly paved and smooth as silk. The medians are also nicely planted with wildflowers and such. Whereas here in Charlotte both I-77 and 85 are a disgrace (except for the portion of 77 from Uptown to 485), and surface streets are filled with potholes. I also noticed a lack of billboards in the Triangle - just nature along the interstates.

So who exactly is deciding where DOT dollars go, and why does the largest metro. in the state get short shrift? The Triangle is made to look like paradise for whatever reason.
