We are on our way to Charlotte. It will be my husband, my 18 month old daughter, my 4 year old daughter and of course, me. My husband will be working at the ITT college on the south end of town. Please give as much advice as possible regarding great places (and not so great places) to live. We are an African American family who enjoy lots of different types of ethnic cuisine. Diversity is very important to us. We would like to live in an area that is at least 20% black with other ethnicities represented as well. We also prefer eating natural and organic foods so living close to a natural grocery store like Whole Foods would be great. Some of the things that are important to us are listed below. Your comment is very much appreciated!!! We keep hearing about south charlotte and the university area north of WT Harris. Please tell us more.
Home price - $175,000 to $225,000 max
Diverse area
Great schools
Community focused
Parks close by
Family and kid activities available
Low to no crime
Hospitals and other medical facilities for kids (and adults) close by
Fresh and good quality grocery stores near by

I currently live in Fort Mill SC, which is right outside of Charlotte, near Carowinds. The taxes are cheaper here, and there are a LOT of places to go and be. You're centrally located next to Charlotte and Pineville. Anyway, it's worth looking into.
My boyfriend has his house for sale in this area...just a byline.
I actually live near to UNCC and have done so since 2000. Have not experienced any serious crime. Another suggestion would be to live north of the city...Huntersville is known as a family-friendly city with lots of natural food stores and options.
If you want to stay somewhat closer to the ITT campus, the Highland Creek area is very nice as well.
Living that far south of the city (Steele Creek or even SC) will create a horrid commute for your husband.
Speak with your relo Realtor. They can give you good ideas, too.
