I would say Marvin, Weddington- Huntersville and possibly Fort Mill. Also check out the Palisades on Lake Wylie and Springfield in Fort Mill...I think you can google it

Nothing could be finer then to live in South Carolina and commute to your job in Charlotte ... it's within the OP's stated commute requirements from Fort Mill ... the schools are excellent in Fort Mill ... the taxes are cheaper in York County then Mecklenburg County/Charlotte City taxes. Less crime in York County too. You will be able to save some of your money by locating to York County SC.

In addition you won't be alone ... this upstate area of SC ... commutes into Charlotte ... toils and labors and earns their pay ... then gets the heck out of Charlotte and home again ... home again ... to York County. April 15 tax time ... you file your Federal returns and NC returns with a copy to SC for info only that you are working in NC and paying tax there (as you are a resident SC and they gotta be sure somebody gets your tax dollars.)

We are looking for Charlotte as a possible relocation city. I am a stay at home mom and my husband is around your salary range too. He will be working by (South Tyron Street, Charlotte, NC 28285), we are looking for a 30 minutes more or less driving for him to go to work. We have two young girls, we are also looking for good schools and entertainment. Let me know how you do/did in the house hunting and how good was the experience of moving to Charlotte.

BIG money grip, you should move out of Charlotte, to Lake Norman. Stay away from the city limits.

Take a look at BAXTER VILLAGE. This is located South of Charlotte in Fort Mill, SC. Do not let the SC scare you because this is a very nice area and rather easy access to the Downtown area.

Good luck,

Neighborhoods, like Dilworth, and Elizabeth are very close to the center city so you should have no problem getting there and not drive much to get to office. The Elizabeth neighborhood has very quaint little sections like on Clement and Lousie where the most of the houses look much like they did 90-years ago. Those two neighborhoods are great for the single 20-something hipsters and also offer the aminities families want with the parks and good schools like Eastover Elementary and Elizabeth traditional.

It depends on how much house you want. For a reasonable commute I'd recommend area 5, but no further out than Pineville-Matthews Road. Lots of good choices. In Myers Park, you probably can only afford a ranch home- it is very expensive. You could likely afford a bungalow in Elizabeth and maybe Dilworth, but don't expect a ton of square feet. Costwald and Providence Park are close in areas that are not that "impressive", but are populated by very well educated family oriented people. You can afford a larger home between Fairview road and Pineville-Matthews in areas 5 (though the high school may not be as good, it may not matter as many send children to private schools even in the "best" school areas). Anything further out than Pineville-Matthews is a lame commute and defeats the purpose of living in a sleepy town like Charlotte. Lake Norman is nice, but the commute is brutal. Union county is just too far out.
