We are relocating to the Charlotte area from Illinois this January. My husband begins work next week, and my son & I will be coming to Charlotte next week with him as well. We are staying for the week to start looking for a house/getting to know the area.

While we are here, I also want to do a few fun activities with my 4 1/2 year old son, so he gets excited about moving to N.C. Any recommendations of things to do during the week?

Also, are there any websites that would be recommended that would have family friendly activities in the area? I found Charlotte Parent magazine site, curious if there are anymore common ones.

Thanks!

Be sure to take him to Discovery Place downtown. It is for kids and they love it.

My preschooler loves Discovery Place. She also gets a kick out of riding the Gold Rush, looking at the tall buildings, looking at maps and watching the crossing signals uptown. It makes the Discovery Place trip a real adventure for her. She also loves Monkey Joe's and any and every playground she sees. I know a playground might sound silly, but considering the weather here versus Illinois, it might be very exciting to your son as well. Best of luck to you on your exploring and move!

If you'll have access to a car, check out Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville and/or Zootastic in Mooresville. Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville is always a big hit! Enjoy!
