Just found out that the place where I have gotten carpet at in the past is no longer in business.....Shop was set-up in an old warehouse...basically no thrills, no frills Mom & Pop shop for carpet. Loved this place because you got quality carpet at discount prices... Need to find another place like this...Any recommendations?

We usually go to Carpet Discount Warehouse off Independence. The owners are really nice and they have the largest selection in the area.

For whatever it is worth: My big box home center comparison

Over the last year I have replaced carpets in a rental and a family member's home.

Home Depot: One word... nightmare. You name it, it went wrong. The service during and after the sale was awful. I will never shop there again.

Lowes: Very happy with the service, price and quality. I always try to support the mom and pops, but in this case I highly recommend Lowes.

And the counter-experience!

I shopped at Home Depot and Lowes when considering new carpet for my rental home in Mooresville this past summer. (after having a bad experience last time with "mom and pop" place that will remain nameless).

Home Depot reps were knowledgeable and took lots of time to explain carpet weights, expected life, difference in fibers, backing padding and how it all adds up.

Lowe's reps said "these are carpets for rental homes, these are the pads you want", and couldn't tell me what kind of textiles or process was used in manufacture.

Prices were similar enough not make a *real* difference.

I chose Home Depot and their contractors installed the carpet as scheduled and without even scuffing a wall. I was *very* pleased with the entire process and will definitely consider the Home Depot in the future.
