...in Fairfield Plantation who were trapped and killed by a company the HOA hired. I can't find it on the WSOC website, but basically the HOA decided the beavers were causing a problem with the creek backing up due to the beavers' dam. The president of the HOA then posted a pic of the dead beavers on their website.
Thoughts? It infuriates me when people kill animals like this rather than finding another solution.

Yeah, I also heard they were concerned that if people saw the beavers, it could bring down the property values as well.
Are those the same people who get all crazy if a person owns a gun -- yet they would hire someone to shoot Bambi in a heartbeat if she were eating their bushes or messing up the "common area" property.
Lived there in the 80s. Flooding could be a problem on its own at times in hard rains. I can only imagine the problems this was causing. So, what would you do with them? If you have never seen the damage that they can cause you would probably see it as just. Otherwise you just relocate the problem on someone else.

I would catch and release in the mountains...away from neighbourhoods.

This is exactly the mindset that killed the beavers. "It's a problem for us, so let's just kill them." No respect for animal life. We kill because we can. Sickening.
If flooding is a problem without the beavers, then killing them didn't solve anything, did it?

Never said I agrees with the actions taken. Just stating facts. According to the report, the HOA had no knowledge that the Beavers would be killed.
Again I'll ask, who's backyard would you put them in?

Someone in the HOA knew the fate of the beavers. They're lying if they say otherwise. The president certainly knew. I reread the article linked above and didn't see where the HOA didn't know.
The fact that he felt posting "mug shots" of freshly killed beavers on the HOA website would be a good idea says a lot about him.
I don't know here the beavers could be taken, but since there are many (millions?) of beavers living in harmony with their surroundings, I'm sure someone does.
