I notice that here in NC people park on the left side of the road allot. As in, driving down the street, get to their friend's house, and pull over to the left, facing oncoming traffic.
Everywhere I've ever lived that was illegal and police would leave a ticket on the windshield. Is it legal here? Or is it like running red lights; illegal but cops don't do anything about it?
It's definitely illegal. The ticket says something about "parking with left side facing curb". If a LEO sees someone in the progress of doing it, it can be considered reckless driving, since it involves moving into the oncoming lane of traffic.
I don't know if it's illegal everywhere or even in my town, but I do it myself sometimes. If I come home and my driveway is blocked (it happens every now and then), I'll just park in front of the house in the direction the vehicle is facing. Then again, our street is very quiet... maybe 2 or 3 cars in an hour pass by. I wouldn't park on the wrong side if the street had more volume or lines painted down the middle of the road.
I don't understand it either. Is it really that hard to flip a quick uie to park on the correct side?
I've looked for a certain video for 20 minutes and can't find it. Maybe you've seen it. It's a car being filmed from behind, somewhere in Europe I think. The car suddenly darts to the left, across traffic, spins, and slides backwards neatly into a roadside parking space on the other side of the road.
The caption of my post would have been "No, it's not hard at all."

I always thought the same thing. A crazy thing that I see a lot on Freedom Drive...trucks around a curve parked in the opposite direction on the right lane....a huge 18 wheeler tractor trailer! You have no idea how many times I see near death accidents because of those trailers parking there around a blind curve.
