I am relocating to Charlotte from Rocky Mount NC. I am looking for income based housing (no public or section 8, bcuz the application waiting list is closed). I am interested in the south or north part of charlotte. Looking to spend min. 600 -700 max a month for rent. a 3 bedroom is needed house or apt. any suggestions? Thanks
Unfortunately, for that price, you will only find someplace in a less-than-desirable area. As I understand it, the average rent for a 3 bedroom apartment is upwards of $1000.00 per month and a house, about $1500.00.
Not sure what to suggest as there are minimal places that have subsidized or sliding scale housing. Those that do usually stick with Section 8 since they are guaranteed payment that way.
You are going to be very hard pressed to find a rental that cheap when you need the added space for 3 kids. You could possibly find rent that cheap somewhere in SC (Rock Hill area?), but not in the Charlotte area.
Can you consider areas outside Charlotte or do you have to be in the city? I think it may be easier to find something if you are looking in one of the smaller towns outside Charlotte. Just throwing that out in case you don't have to specifically be right in Charlotte.
Someone our church helped got into income-based housing in Belmont; if you don't need to be in Charlotte and don't need public transportation, you might check with Belmont's housing authority.
