So I'm making a Google Map App for Charlotte suburb to Uptown commute times.

I need you to answer the 4 simple questions below and e-mail the answers directly to me. I’ll then post the answers on the Map, like the example below, and before long we will have the whole area represented.

Here are the questions, you should work inside the 277 loop, we'll do other areas another time:

On an average rush hour morning, how long does it take you to drive to work, drive way to driveway?
On an average rush hour evening, how long does it take you to drive home, driveway to driveway?
What community/subdivision do you live in?
What is your zip code?

Here is a sample of the map with its first point: Google Maps

So if you can answer the 4 questions above, e-mail your answers tmcdonald2 (at) (substituting @)carolina.rr.com and put COMMUTE in the subject line? If you are so inclined, forward this in an email on to 3- 5 co-workers who work Uptown, ask them to do the same—we’ll get this done in no time!

I imagine it with hundreds of Points, with notes inside on the average commute. South Charlotte, North Charlotte, East and West, it doesn’t matter. If we have enough, they’ll average out pretty accurately I suspect. I’ll send a link to the final Google Map by e-mail to all who participated. Have them look for "Commute" in their subject line.

Thanks all-- I'll post the link back to the map here when complete. I think the results will be intersting to say the least...

I'll post mine when Google spends the money to at least update my subdivision. Some streets that are over a yr old are not even listed...

There's my first answer.

Thanks for the full reading-- and the negative post-- Hello, I am not Google-- I'm using their map... Would you be happier if I used Virtual Earth by Microsoft? That your beef? or do you really have a complex about Google- a free service- not updating your neighborhood fast enough? Really, that would keep me up nights.

I've never seen a thumbs down for so little-- did you see the word Google and go crazy? I wasn't trying to start a fight here, just collect and post some information--

Oh and go buy a new nav system, $3-500, personal or for your car-- you'll find some 2-3 year old streets not there and you'll pay $$ for it. And if you look carefully, the maps at Google are provided by Navtaq--a company whose stock is soaring, no ROARING, not withstanding their shortcomings in your neighborhood. Somehow they are making it without your street...

Thumbs up I Like Google, but not for maps!

This is a great idea. Thanks for doing it. Positive post from me!

But I would use Microsoft virtual map. My community is a big dirt mound still on Google (The Reserve, Union County). I had to use Microsoft virtual map for just that reason on my website.

I'll give you my 2 cents if it will help...My commute is all of 30 seconds because all I do is walk down the hall to my computer My husband, on the other hand does go uptown every day. 95% of the time he rides the express bus, but there are times he has to drive in. So here are his stats:

8 miles
35 minutes in the morning
25 minutes in the evening after 6 pm
zip code 28270
