We are looking for a few town suggestions that will allow us to commute to Huntersville and Weddington. Schools are our 1st priority (public) and famil-friendly town is important too. I am a homebody but my hub and the kids like to go to sport events or town fest. Our budget is $550k, charm is more important than sq footage. The drive towards Huntersville can be as much as 30 -40 min but would prefer to keep the drive to Weddington at 10 - 15. I am completely overwhemed by the large school districts and the lotteries (which we have missed) so finding a hard time pinpointing towns.

Just learned that Coca Cola race is this weekend while we are doing our scouting so if anyone can provide accurate time estimares. My guess is things may be more crowded than usual.

This is a no-brainer

With schools as your top priority, live in Weddington and just endure the almost hour or so commute to Huntersville via I485 west to I77 north. Once he gets past uptown Charlotte he would be going against traffic so he may be able to do the trip in 50 minutes depending on your home's location.

Depends on the time of day. 50 minutes is optimistic for a Saturday, depending on where in Weddington you start from and how far off of 77 you need to be in Huntersville.

Until 485 gets widened through Pineville (2015?), Weddington to Huntersville could be well over an hour between 7 and 9 in the morning.
