I don't know much about the Carolinas, but my husband is in the Army and he is looking into working at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC. I work for a large law firm with an office in Charlotte, NC. If we lived in say, Rock Hill, would it be reasonable for me to commute to Charlotte and he to Columbia? Thanks!!
It's possible, yes. I'd estimate Rock Hill to Columbia to be a little over an hour (depending on where in Rock Hill and where in Columbia.) Rock Hill to downtown Charlotte is probably about 45 minutes.
Depending on traffic, the commute could be an hour each way for both of you. I-77 can get very congested. Maybe you can get work schedules where you're able to beat the traffic. Personally, I wouldnt be excited the commute from Rock Hill to Columbia or Charlotte..
