I think it's ridiculous for anyone to expect me to flash lights and ask what the guy's intent is at midnight. He's not there to mow my lawn, trim the trees, or give me a pedicure. Two times is a mistake and a call to the cops. Three times= a chewed up butt by a big mean dog. Four times with no cops arriving = a call to the mayor's office and barbed wire installed on my fence.
Is barbed wire illegal? I can't find anything in city ordinances that covers the use of barbed wire withing city limits in a suburban neighborhood.
Thanks to those who propose answers. It helps.

So, please be clear - are you saying you had a person in your fenced in back yard one night at midnight and when you called CMPD to report it they would not respond?

You haven't really answered a lot of people's questions about what exactly happened.
So what exactly did you do? Call the cops and tell them to get to your house immediately? That's what it sounds like to me, since you didn't seem to want to do anything else to prevent the guy from doing something worse than being in your backyard. Suggesting to turn on the lights was really just so the person would know that you were home and awake. I'm sure if you did call the police they wouldn't mind staying on the phone until the guy left, but it's not likely the person would still be there by the time the police got there.

Duh... yeah. Three times. Why would I ask?
What other answers are pertinent to the topic? I was wearing my pajamas, and it was a clear night. I caught the guy walking through my back yard. He wasn't invited. he was a stranger. He didn't offer me flowers. He ran when I opened the door. He was probably not a policeman. I was unarmed. He was about 6' tall and he was chewing a caramel. He was wearing dark clothes. Bruno Mali shoes. He looked like his aunt might have been named Mildred.
Anything else? What difference does it make? I haven't called the police, and I haven't filled out a complaint, so why the interrogation? Are you folks policemen interested in coming to investigate? Come on over and fill out a report.

People are just concerned. You made it sound like the police wouldn't come... which would be unacceptable IMO. But this makes it sound like you haven't even called the cops?
Why rely on anonymous internet people to inform you about what the police should do? Go straight to the source for goodness' sake!
I wouldn't be happy. I'd call the cops.

Don't know what else you expect us to do. You were complaining about a law yet you haven't taken any action. We were trying to figure out what exactly your complaint was. If you're looking for help and people try to get more information from you, they're usually trying to help you. When you act defensive, it doesn't really help your cause.
Do you have a neighborhood watch? Could you ask your neighbors if they have seen this guy or if to be on the lookout for him? Call the non-emergency police number and ask them what you should do.
Post the required sign, see if he comes back, and call the police then.
Either way, it's small potatoes stuff unless he has stolen anything.

Huh? Loves asked if you called CMPD and it sounds like you said you did three times. But then you say you haven't called the police? Sorry if I'm still not understanding the situation.
Assuming not all of your second paragraph is sarcasm, if you were able to get a description of the guy that would probably help the police find him. But just saying "there's a guy in my yard" isn't going to give them much of a chance.

SOOOO....you've had this guy in your yard THREE times, you're ticked off about the trespassing laws in Charlotte, but you haven't bothered to call 911 yet?
Your posts make less and less sense.

No. My original post was a simple question, and then the Joe Friday types wanted more information, so I gave it. I haven't complained, and I haven't said whether I called the police. Asking a question and then answering people's ensuing questions it is not a complaint.
Stating that someone has not answered questions that weren't really asked and then saying that no one can help unless more information is offered IS a complaint.
Some folks seem to enjoy twisting things around. It also seems that we have some defensive people on the board who advise against calling the police because they have "better things to do".
Now, what about barbed wire installed INSIDE my fenced perimeter? Does that break any local ordinances? I can't find anything about it. It seems like a good alternative to calling the police and wasting their time (and mine).
But thanks for your contribution.

Duh? Are you 12, cause if so I'll give you a pass. Otherwise I find your responses and thought processes to be insufferably rude.
People are just trying to help, you obviously are looking for reasons to be upset and at this point I hope you find them.
Personally, your story sounds made up to me!
