My family is moving to NC in August. We've studied Charlotte more than the other population centers but are open to the triangle or triad areas. We're renting a 4BR home for $1250 or less per month. We have children ages 7 and 10 are are concerned about schools.
I work from home so location isn't a problem, but we have friends who want to move in the next 2-6 months with small kids too. He will need to commute to a job so being "in the sticks" isn't possible.
The town we are moving from is 5,000 people and about 15 minutes from the nearest 20,000 person population center and 30 minutes from the metro.
I want to be in a community of between those populations, within 30 minutes of a large (100,000+) population center so my friend can find a decent job.

Thank you for your input. Yes I understand that $1250 is going to be limiting on what we can select. I've already upped my number to $1400 or $1450, and it's clear there is a nice sweet spot for 4BR homes in the middle.
