I am looking to buy a new construction home in either Concord or Indian Trail. Which town has the lowest real estate tax? best schools? best commute to Charlotte for work? I would love any suggestions.

In that case, one good option is going to be Moss Creek in Concord. It can be harder to get the very best schools in western Union County under $200,000.
At that price range w/the housing situation you now can get comparable schools to Concord in either Sun Valley or Porter Ridge. or if you're lucky enough to get into CATA. You won't afford Weddington/Marvin in Union County RE at that price range.
I have a flexible schedule and I've done the commute from IT many times super early up to mid-morning. The commute into Uptown isn't great, however it still isn't bad considering what I used to go through in Jersey..depends alot on what time you're traveling inbound...
Where are you moving FROM would help in terms of perspective about traffic....
We (when I say "we" I mean the C-D regulars family), since we have so many transplants from different parts of the country (and natives also), you can get a pretty good idea on how things compare to where you're moving from.
I live in Moss Creek and my neighbor next door works for BOA, so he commutes to the center of Charlotte. Depending on traffic, it takes him between 25 minutes to 45 minutes during heavy rush hour, bad weather, etc.

And I thought the whole point of moving to the burbs was to save money? Since the recession, there are quite a few newer homes in Charlotte for less than that. Anyways, have you looked into Fort Mill/Rock Hill areas? Those two would be easier commutes into uptown than Union county and Concord (and the taxes are cheaper).
