Union is a dirty word in this right to work state (for the most part).

There is a state union, don't think there is a county one.

Unions | Teachers Union Facts

http://www.ncae.org/ (which only represents about half the states teachers and has no real power).

NCAE.org - NCAE.org (which only represents about half the states teachers and has no real power).
NCAE is not a union! Only an association that does some lobbying and has some nice group rates on insurance, loans, etc.

LOL. Really? So the American Medical Association is a union? The American Bar Association? The Association of American Florists? I don't think anyone classifies them as such. A union is defined by collective bargaining power, which the NCAE does not have.

Yeah, the term "union" became a dirty word because of collective bargaining... plain and simple. It's things like the Taylor Law will make people in NY slobber and go nearly rabid against the public unions.

I'm guessing the OP has concerns for spiraling taxes as seen where teachers/cops use the collective bargaining powers to the extreme.

Disagree. I have been associations and family members up north have been in Unions. It's like comparing a tricycle to a jet.

NCAE is not a union. There are no collective-bargaining powers for state employees in NC - basically unions for government employees are not allowed. NCAE is affiliated with NEA - which does sponsor unions in some states but not North Carolina.
