How long is the commute? You mention bringing it down to 30 minutes ish? I have lived in Huntersville (Vermillion, Stonegate Farms, Birkdale Village, Macaulay and Monteith Park) and now, Cornlelius since 1997 and work on W Tyvola by Jocks and Jills. It rarely takes me over 30 minutes to get down here unless, I leave at prime time. What way is your husband going? 77S to West Blvd, rather than Tyvola will save time.
...Any thoughts on Clover, Gastonia, Monroe, or Indian Trail? Those are other areas that seem to have good schools, good house prices, but am not too sure on commute times.
None of these areas are going to improve your commute times to, I assume, downtown. In fact some of them will be significantly worse. Huntersville is a fairly large area in the north part of the county, I recommend moving closer to Exit 23. Commutes from there are not bad and there are a lot of alternative routes if one of the roads closes.
If commuting is your top issue, then the only other solution for you is to move into Charlotte to real estate areas 4 & 5 between Sharon Rd/Sharon Amity & downtown. I recommend the Cotswald area, Sherwood Forest, Beverly Woods, Barclay Downs, etc.
OP lives in Huntersville now and works south of downtown, most of those places are the same or worse commute, which is what she is trying to change. Although depending on where exactly in Huntersville they live, I would think the Gilead Rd area at least would be in the 30 minute range.
As loves said, Fort Mill could be an option. Another option could be Matthews, which if you're in the northwestern portion you could avoid 485 and should be able to keep the commute in the 30 minute range.
I believe that Highland Creek, where they are renting now, is off of Eastfield Rd. close to Concord? If that is correct, it takes a really long time to drive to Tivola Rd. My son lives near Tivola and Park Rd.and works near Highland Creek occasionally and it is a long haul. He often stays in Cornelius since it is so much closer 30 min) than Highland Creek. Huntersville is obviously very extensive if Highland Creek is part of it. When I think of Huntersville, I think Birkdale or central town.

I got the impression that OP lived in Huntersville, not Highland Creek, and that Highland Creek was just one of the areas suggested to her.
Highland Creek is more North Charlotte/Concord then Huntersville (I have lived in both places). I second Gilead Rd area versus HC if you want to stay North. It is much more country.

By West Tyvola, I am assuming over toward the old Coliseum/Billy Graham. Cotswold, Beverly Woods, etc is still a decently long commute due to traffic on Tyvola/Fairview or Billy Graham/Woodlawn.
Yes, I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. We were still getting used to the area and thought that Highland Creek was part of Huntersville. We live off of Eastfield Road right next to Highland Creek. I am surprised that several people suggested near the Gilead Road exit as that seems further away, but I am guessing with it being right off the highway it really might be a shorter commute. Thanks for the advice everyone! and while I'm here, if anyone else knows anything about Rock Hill?
